After Surgery

When surgery is over, you will be taken to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) until the anesthesia wears off. Recovery times vary greatly from 15 minutes to more than an hour. Depending on the surgery you are having, you may bypass the PACU and go directly to our Phase II recovery. Once you feel well enough, our staff will bring your caregiver to your recovery room, at which time we shall review your discharge instructions. Again, a responsible adult must be present when we review your discharge instructions. We encourage you and your caregiver to ask questions if you do not understand the discharge instructions. It is very important that you follow the instructions provided for you. When you are ready for discharge, one of our staff members may escort you down to your car. It is HPSC’s policy that every patient who has had sedation leave the building in a wheelchair and is escorted by one of our staff members. Before you leave, the physician may write a prescription for some medications. It is your choice where you would like to have your prescription filled.

You will receive a follow -up call on the next business day from a High Pointe Surgery Center nurse to see how you are recovering. If you have any immediate needs or concerns, please call your surgeon.
